Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture works on a nervous system level, as it stimulates the brain to release natural chemicals like endorphins, improving blood flow, reducing pain, and enhancing overall well-being. It provides healing on a cellular level that supports the body's ability to heal itself.

Yes, acupuncture is completely safe when performed by a trained professional. Licensed acupuncturists use sterile, single-use needles and are highly knowledgeable about anatomy. Most patients find treatments virtually painless, often describing a mild tingling or relaxing sensation.

Acupuncture is more than symptom relief—it’s about improving overall holistic health and vitality. By addressing imbalances early, this approach helps prevent bigger health issues. Combining ancient wisdom with modern approaches like stress reduction, nutrition, and immune support, Oriental Medicine optimizes all areas of your health.

Unlike synthetic drugs, Chinese herbs harness the natural synergy of plants, reducing side effects while enhancing effectiveness. Our team taylors formulas to your unique health needs for safe, personalized care.

Licensed acupuncturists undergo extensive training—over 3,000 hours in Eastern Medicine and acupuncture programs, with hands-on supervision. They must pass board exams and complete yearly continuing education.

In contrast, many healthcare providers offering dry needling, such as physical therapists, often complete only a short seminar (1-2 days) with little oversight or standardized requirements. If you're considering dry needling, ask these questions:

  • How many hours of needle training have you had?
  • Were these hours hands-on or classroom-based?
  • How many patients have you treated under expert supervision?
  • Does your malpractice insurance explicitly cover dry needling?

As a licensed acupuncturist team with advanced training in South Korea, we aim to provide safe, effective care rooted in expertise.
When it comes to acupuncture and dry needling, training matters—a lot. Here's the deal:

  • Licensed Acupuncturists complete a rigorous 3,000+ hours of training in Eastern Medicine, including hands-on practice, board exams, and ongoing education.
  • Dry needling courses for physical therapists? Usually just a 1-2 day seminar. No extensive supervision. No board exams. No annual continuing education.

In states like Texas, there’s often no clear regulation on how much training a physical therapist needs to use needles. This leaves you, the patient, to ask important questions:

  • How many hours of training have you had?
  • How many patients have you treated under supervision?
  • Does your malpractice insurance cover dry needling?

In contrast, my team and I have built our foundation on 3,000+ hours of acupuncture training and have pursued advanced dry needling techniques in South Korea to ensure you get the safest, most effective care.
Acupuncture sessions are often described as relaxing. Many patients experience reduced discomfort and improved function after just one visit. Acute issues may resolve quickly, while chronic conditions typically see progress in 4-6 sessions.

A first visit includes a detailed consultation, health history, and exam (1-1.5 hours). Follow-ups are shorter, around 30 minutes.

Eastern and Western medicine each have strengths. While Western medicine excels in acute, life-threatening situations, acupuncture and Oriental Medicine shine in addressing chronic conditions and promoting overall health. Together, they can offer a well-rounded approach to healing.

Acupuncture isn’t just about fixing problems—it’s about preventing them. Practitioners of Oriental Medicine focus on catching small imbalances before they grow into big health issues.

Feeling run-down? Chronic pain? Want to boost your vitality? Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can:

Relieve acute and chronic conditions

Strengthen your immune system

Promote balance and overall wellness

This ancient approach aligns perfectly with modern trends like eating clean, moving your body, reducing stress, and prioritizing self-care. It’s not a quick fix—it’s a lifestyle upgrade.
Here’s the truth: most modern drugs are derived from plants, but the process of isolating “active ingredients” often removes the plant’s natural synergies, causing side effects.

Chinese herbs? They’re a whole different story. Out team carefully combines herbs to target your specific needs, keeping your body in balance while avoiding unnecessary side effects.

The result? Precise, effective, and safe remedies tailored just for you.
When choosing an acupuncturist or herbalist, don’t be shy. Ask about:

  • Training: How many hours of education and hands-on practice do they have?
  • Safety: Are they licensed? Do they use sterile, disposable needles?
  • Approach: How do they balance Eastern and Western medicine for the best results?

Pro tip: Look for someone who knows their limits and has a referral network for care outside their expertise.

We accept all insurance plans and are in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare. Coverage varies, so we recommend contacting your provider. We’re happy to assist with verification during your first visit.
