Acupuncture & Integrative Support for Retinitis Pigmentosa

If you’re living with RP, you may be navigating changes that affect not just how you see, but how you move through daily life. Difficulty in low-light environments, subtle loss of side vision, visual fatigue, and the mental effort required to adapt can gradually become part of everyday decision-making.

Many people are told that monitoring is the only option — and while observation is important, it can also leave you feeling like you’re simply waiting without support. At AIMC, our role is to provide thoughtful, integrative care focused on supporting the systems that influence visual function and overall well-being, alongside your existing diagnosis.

Retinitis Pigmentosa Vision Dallas

What Is Retinitis Pigmentosa?

Retinitis Pigmentosa is a genetic retinal condition that affects the photoreceptor cells of the eye — the cells responsible for helping you see in low light and detect movement and detail in your field of vision. Over time, this can lead to gradual changes in how you see the world, often beginning subtly and progressing at a pace that is different for everyone.

Many people with RP first notice difficulty seeing at night or adjusting to dim lighting. As the condition progresses, peripheral vision may begin to narrow, making it harder to notice objects, movement, or people outside of direct view. Everyday activities like driving at night, navigating unfamiliar spaces, or moving confidently in low-light environments can start to feel more challenging. Eye fatigue, visual strain, and mental stress related to adapting to these changes are also common.

In conventional care, management of Retinitis Pigmentosa often centers on diagnosis, monitoring, and periodic evaluations to track progression. While this approach is important, it can sometimes leave you feeling like you’re simply waiting and watching, without much guidance on how to support your body in the meantime.

At AIMC, our focus is different. We concentrate on supporting the systems that influence eye function and visual processing, including circulation to the eyes, neurological signaling, and overall nervous system balance. Our goal is not to replace your existing care, but to offer integrative support that helps your body function as efficiently and comfortably as possible as you navigate life with RP.

Out team's  approach is designed to meet you where you are — with care that is thoughtful, supportive, and focused on your overall well-being, not just your diagnosis.

Why Choose AIMC & How We Are Different

At AIMC, care for eye and vision conditions is not an add-on or an afterthought — it is a focused area of clinical expertise. Many people come to us after realizing that their condition requires more than routine care, and that working with a practitioner who truly understands complex eye disorders matters.

Dr. Chapa is a recognized leader in the treatment of severe and degenerative eye conditions, with a clinical focus that has been developed through decades of dedicated study, hands-on experience, and advanced specialty training. His work centers on a highly specialized Micro Acupuncture™ Treatment Program, designed specifically to support eye health, neurological signaling, and circulation related to vision.

Dr. Chapa has completed extensive advanced training under some of the most respected physicians and educators in the field of ophthalmology and integrative medicine, both in the United States and internationally. His training includes study in China, Japan, South Korea, and the U.S., allowing him to draw from a wide range of medical traditions and modern clinical approaches.

A defining milestone in his career was the completion of the Ophthalmology Fellowship in 2015, led by Dr. Andy Rosenfarb — a globally recognized authority in ophthalmology and integrative eye care. This fellowship is held by only a small number of practitioners worldwide and represents an advanced level of specialization in treating complex and degenerative eye diseases.

What sets Dr. Chapa apart is not only the depth of his training, but the way he integrates it. His approach blends Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, and modern therapeutic techniques into a thoughtful, conservative, and patient-centered model of care. Each treatment plan is developed with attention to the whole person — not just the eyes, but the nervous system, circulation, and overall physiological balance that influence visual function.

At AIMC, you can expect:

  • Over 30 years of clinical experience

  • Extensive hands-on experience with complex and degenerative eye conditions

  • Highly specialized micro-acupuncture techniques requiring advanced training and precision

  • An integrative, whole-body approach that works alongside your existing medical care

  • Honest, clear communication about goals, expectations, and what supportive care can realistically offer

Care here is never rushed or generalized. You are met where you are, with respect for your diagnosis, your experience, and your questions. The focus is on providing skilled, thoughtful support — so you feel informed, supported, and cared for as a whole person, not defined by a condition.

Our Care Process for Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP)

Step 1: Case Evaluation

Your care begins with a focused evaluation of how Retinitis Pigmentosa is affecting your vision. We review your medical history, diagnosis, symptoms, and recent vision testing to establish a clear baseline and determine whether our approach is appropriate for you.

Step 2: Treatments

Our Treatment sessions are designed to gently support circulation, neurological signaling, and visual comfort.  Visits typically include multiple short treatment rounds with rest periods in between, using precise micro-acupuncture and supportive techniques selected based on your individual needs and response.

Step 3: Evaluating Progress

After a series of treatments, vision testing may be repeated to help assess changes and guide next steps. We review progress openly and may offer lifestyle or nutritional support as appropriate, so you can make informed decisions about continuing care.

What Our Degerative Eye Conditions Patients Have To Say ...

I have an eye disease that for years I’ve been told there is nothing that can be done. While I know there is no cure, I have been visiting Dr. Chapa and I have seen some positive results. No —I have not regained the vision I have lost BUT I have seen substantial improvement in my night vision and the vision I DO have is sharp and clear. I will continue to visit Dr. Chapa to maintain the vision that I have not already lost. He and his staff are very helpful and I would encourage anyone with eye conditions (or other issues) to contact them and see if he can help you. Acupuncture has been a great experience for me and I will continue to use it as long as I am able.

Karol O.

I saw Dr. Chapa a couple of months ago for a problem with my vision. After discussing the problem, and what I thought to be the cause of it, Dr. Chapa astutely diagnosed the root cause of the problem and explained the treatment plan. Since beginning treatment, I have experienced significant improvement with my vision problem, so much so that an examination by my ophthalmologist last week confirmed that I no longer need the addition of prisms to my eye glasses prescription. When I briefly described the treatment I received from Dr. Chapa to my ophthalmologist, he was amazed and said that usually patients who require prisms don’t revert back to not needing them. I can’t recommend Dr. Chapa highly enough as a skilled, knowledgeable, experienced and compassionate practitioner. He is literally the “go to” person for a whole host of health issues.
